PASSPORT FAQ
You do not have to join more than one passport level and the level you join is largely determined by the benefits you are most interested in receiving. If you would like to have access to all our Classical and POPS! related digital content AND save your subscription seats, as well as help the PSO play on, we would suggest becoming a SUPER passport holder. If you would like to save your seats and have limited access to Classical and POPS! related digital content, we would suggest becoming a STANDARD passport holder. If you are only interested in the digital content and don’t want to save your seats, we would suggest becoming a SIMPLE passport holder.
We are hard at work creating new and innovative programming for our 2020-21 season that can be enjoyed online and, when it is safe to do, in-person, while also ensuring the safety of our patrons, musicians, staff, and the community. We will share our program with you as soon as we can, but rest assured your PSO Passport will be a gateway to great music during the 2020-21 season!
That is no problem! You can easily change into the Standard or Simple level depending on what benefits you would like to keep. The list of benefits for each Passport level can be found above. Once you have determined which level you would like to move to, please give our box office PortTIX a call at (207) 842-0800. They are open Monday – Friday, 11AM – 5PM.
Yes, we will be sending out a Passport Holder packet this season as usual! While it will not include physical tickets for each performance, it will be full of information regarding your Passport level, the different benefits you receive, and how to access your digital content. These will be sent to you sometime in September.
This will depend on which level passport you hold:
As a Super Passport holder, the links to the digital concerts will be available in your online PortTIX account as part of your upcoming events page. They will also be emailed to you in a pre-concert reminder email the day the performance is available online.
As a Standard or Simple Passport holder, you must first RSVP to the content you would like to view. Once you have done this, the link will be made available to you via your PortTIX portal. It will also be emailed to you in a pre-concert reminder email the day the performance is available online.
A digital performance is a concert performed by your PSO musicians that can be viewed from the comfort and safety of your own home! They could include:
- Larger-scale concerts that have been recorded in Merrill or an alternative venue either live or broadcast at a later date.
- Solo or small ensemble recitals or chamber performances filmed at Merrill, an alternative venue, or from the safety of each musician’s home that is filmed and edited together.
The PSO Passport is an updated subscription model that allows for more flexibility for you during these fast-changing times. It expands upon the original subscription series prices, breaking them into three separate levels customized to meet the different needs of our subscribers right now: Super, Standard, and Simple. Plus, the Standard Passport gives our patrons the chance to save their subscription seat for this season at almost half of the original subscription price!
The differences are in the benefits you receive and the price levels. The different benefits can be found listed above, and the prices can be found by calling our box office PortTIX at (207) 842-0800.
This will depend on which level you hold. As a Super passport holder your digital content will be accessed through your PortTIX online account. The content’s video will be able to be accessed on your computer, your phone, or – depending on your current home entertainment set-up – even your TV!
As a Standard or Simple passport holder you will be asked to RSVP to the content you wish to view. Once you have done this (and the concert is made available online), you will be able to access it via your PortTIX online account. You can watch the digital concert on your computer, your phone, or – depending on your current home entertainment set-up – even your TV!
Currently Magic of Christmas tickets are on sale and we are hard at work creating a program filled with much needed holiday cheer. The safety of our patrons and musicians is of the utmost importance to us and we are and will continue to follow the most current federal, state, and city health and safety guidelines. Therefore, we are not sure yet if this Magic of Christmas will be an in-person or online only event. However, we are dedicated to enriching the community through music and bringing Magic to as many people as possible this holiday season and beyond! We should have a full program announcement for Magic sometime in September and will let you know as soon as we have that information.
The deadline to change your passport level is August 14th. Please note, after this time, you will not be able to decrease your passport level and receive a refund for the difference.
This year we will not be mailing out physical tickets with the welcome packets. Once we are sure we can safely return to in person concerts, we will assess whether using physical tickets is the safest way to proceed for our patrons and staff. All links for digital concerts will be accessible online via your PortTIX account.
Yes, you may transfer some or all your seats to a family member or friend. This can be done by sending our box office PortTIX an email or mailing them a letter with the instructions for your transfer. We ask that you please let us know who the recipient will be and their name, address and patron ID number (if known).

The Portland Symphony Orchestra cannot wait for the time when we can all be together again surrounded by music, and live performances are once again possible. While we do not know exactly when that will be, we are committed to keeping you connected to the music in the meantime. That is why we are moving forward with a new, innovative 2020-21 season and why we created the PSO Passport! A Passport subscription is not only a gateway to great music in 2020-21, it will also ensure your PSO will play on this season and far beyond! If we find adjustments need to be made to our schedule, we will be sure to update you as we go forward.
We understand you may have many questions regarding your 2020-21 concert-going experience. Please know we are frequently reviewing recommendations made by both the federal and state CDC’s as well as other federal, state, and local authorities so we can provide a safe concert-going experience and address your concerns. Currently, we plan to provide digital concerts in place of physical ones until the time when it is safe to perform in-person again. We will continue to monitor the city, state, and federal guidelines and restrictions as we determine when and how we can safely to return to Merrill. Once we do return to the Hall, we will be following all recommended safety procedures to ensure we protect our patrons, musicians, staff, and the community. We are taking things day by day and understand that this may not address any or all questions or concerns you have at present, but we believe it will allow us to provide the safest experience possible as the season begins. We will be sure to keep you updated as we know more!
No, unfortunately the deadline to receive a refund for your 2019-20 tickets that could be used toward this season was June 30th.
Great! If you become a Super or Standard Passport holder, you can experience the first half of the season online and then enjoy concerts in person once we are cleared to return to Merrill. This saves your subscription seats for the concerts you will attend and for the 2021-22 season.
You can become a Standard Passport holder, it ensures your subscription seat for the 2021-22 season at almost 50% off the original subscription price!
Currently we do not have a set date. As the circumstances surrounding COVID-19 continue to change, we are taking things day by day. As soon as we have a concrete date, we will let you know!
Currently, we are unable to process subscription payments in installments. However, as the circumstances surrounding COVID-19 keep changing, we are considering all possibilities and taking things day by day. We will be sure to keep you updated as we know more.
The great news is with the PSO Passport online offerings we hopefully won’t have to cancel digital concerts! However, if we have to cancel programs next season due to COVID-19, we will continue with the policy we began earlier this year in March. If you have tickets to a cancelled concert you can:
- Donate your tickets back to the PSO as a donation.
- Exchange into a future 2020-21 season concert – all exchange fees will be waived up until an established deadline.
- You may receive a refund so long as you request it within the established deadline that is communicated if/when concert cancellations occur.
If you decide you would feel safer staying at home after you have subscribed, you have some great options available to you:
- You can experience the content on our digital platform from the comfort and safety of your own home!
- You can give your tickets to a friend who might feel a little more comfortable attending in person and keep your subscription and monitor how everything changes and how you feel throughout the season.
- You can exchange or turn-back your tickets concert by concert to keep the option of attending some later performances open.
- You can turn-back your subscription as a donation to the PSO which ensures you keep your seats for the 2021-22 season.
Yes! We will be releasing digital content throughout the season. Each Passport level gives you access to different levels of digital content. You can view the different levels available to you above.
As of now, we do not know if we will cancel any concerts next season. However, as the circumstances surrounding COVID-19 keep changing, we plan to modify concerts as necessary to ensure we are following the most up-to-date city, state, and federal health guidelines. We will be sure to keep you updated as we know more.
Excellent question! As the circumstances surrounding COVID-19 keep changing, we are following the most up-to-date city, state, and federal health guidelines and considering all possibilities to ensure the health and safety of our musicians, patrons, staff, and the greater community. As of now, we are taking things day by day, but will be sure to keep you updated as soon we know more.
