Experience a performance of richly layered sound as we explore the powerful role of the organ in shaping orchestral sound, structure, and emotional depth.
A bold work by one of the great organists of the 19th century, Bruckner’s Symphony No. 3 is experimental and visionary. His deep love for the organ is translated throughout the piece with its sweeping sonorities, monumental climaxes, and a final movement in which the orchestra seems to transform into the mighty instrument itself. The result is music of profound spiritual intensity—towering, luminous, and unmistakably personal.
PSO’s own Principal Oboist Amanda Hardy brings clarity, balance, and lyricism to the program with a Concerto for Oboe, the work of another master organist, Johann Sebastian Bach. Municipal organist James Kennerley also appears to perform Naji Hakim’s Concerto for Organ and Orchestra, showcasing the power and musicality of the mighty Kotzschmar itself.
