The opportunity to experience a live symphony is so special to our family. One son just started trumpet – a DIRECT result of the petting zoo. My other son has a few years before school band begins, but he’s already decided on the French horn! – Jen Segal, Parent
Treat your family to an unforgettable afternoon out with classical concerts conducted for children of all ages. These 50-minute performances are designed to inspire kids’ curiosity with an additional hour of pre-concert opportunities to connect with the stars on the stage. Professional musicians will let your children get a feel for the tools of their trade in our Instrument Petting Zoo. And peewee performers can shine as they are guided through conducting a live-orchestra performance as the PSO’s latest Podium Hero. For only $10 a ticket, it’s the fun, affordable way to spark your kids’ lifelong interest in the magic of live symphony music.
These performances are designed for families with children ages 4-12, but are enjoyable for all.
The Instrument Petting Zoo
This is an opportunity for children to touch, play and hear instruments with demonstrations by real professional PSO musicians. About 600 people experience the petting zoo during each of the three Discovery Concerts per season. What instruments? Violin, Viola, Bass, Flute, Clarinet, Oboe, Bassoon, Trumpets, Trombone, French Horn, Tuba, Harp, and assorted Percussion instruments.
Ever wondered what it would be like to conduct your own symphony orchestra? Find out at this pre-concert event that features two real PSO musicians along with the conductor! Children will learn how to use a baton and beat a pattern that the musicians will follow.
