What is A:MMP?
Designed in direct collaboration with middle school educators, America: The Musical Melting Pot is a 45 minute chamber music program that walks through the important stages in America’s history between the pre-Colonial era and the year 1900. A narrator takes students through a visually compelling slide presentation and, along with the PSO String Quartet, demonstrates how important elements like improvisation and hidden messages helped to spawn an entirely new musical culture in the United States. This program features music from composers like Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven, and Antonín Dvořák along with traditional spirituals and more. This program is designed to specifically with the American history curriculum in Maine public schools and comes with a teachers guide to help educators connect the performance to their classroom.
